InjectaFem is an injectable contraception that works by releasing progestin hormone into the bloodstream. It is over 99% effective and offers the client 3 months of protection. It is administered by an injection in the gluteal or deltoid muscle (every 3 months) by a healthcare provider. It is effective immediately – it stops ovulation and inhibits sperm transport though the fallopian tube and prevents implantation.

Who can use it? 

Most sexually active women:

  • Women looking for a highly effective long-acting  contraceptive option to limit or space births
  • Women living with HIV or on antiretroviral (ARV) therapy
  • Women who are breastfeeding

Who can’t use it?

Women with current or history of:

  • Breast cancer
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Risks factors for osteoporosis
  • Severe liver dysfunction
  • Conditions that could increase chances of heart disease, such as high blood pressure, blood clots in legs or lungs, or diabetes
