NON-HORMONAL INTRAUTERINE DEVICE (IUD)

Etherena is a non-hormonal intrauterine device effective for up to 10 years: Highly effective, long-lasting reversible method suitable for women who prefer a non hormonal method of contraception

  • Plastic frame shaped like a T, with a copper wire embedded in its vertical arm, horizontal arm has a copper sleeve

  • Works as an emergency contraceptive if inserted up to 5 days after unprotected sex

  • Over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy over the period of 10 years1

  • Mechanism of action: Prevents pregnancy by impeding the movement of the egg and reducing the ability of sperm to fertilize the egg

  • It does not cause abortion and does not prevent sexually transmitted diseases

  • Side effects: Bleeding may be heavier, longer and more painful especially in the first 3 to 6 months. These changes are not harmful

  • Contraindications: Known or suspected pregnancy, current pelvic inflammatory disease or current gynecologic infections; Women with an allergy to copper should not use Etherena
